Understanding & Responding to Troubled Children and Youth Using a Strength-Based Approach Part II
This session will briefly review some of the important principles and techniques of strength-based practice covered during Part One. Strength-based practice is an emerging approach to treating at-risk children and youth that is exceptionally positive and transforming. New topics covered during this session include: What child youth care professionals should know about developmental psychology; the need for youth care programs to be “family” centered, key verbal interventions that are effective with at-risk children and youth; strategies to prevent problem behavior; how and why to check personal baggage at the door and manage number one effectively; the do’s and don’ts of personal self-disclosure; and systemic strategies for enhancing supervision and training of youth care professionals . Attendance at the first training is not a requirement for attending this session.
