Students must do an out of town practicum and therefore students are not only placed in Lethbridge and area, but also Crowsnest Pass, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and into B.C. (Elk Valley, Vancouver, Victoria) Our practicum is done in a ‘block’ style with the student working (unpaid) full time in the program they are placed into for the duration of the practicum.

When are Practicum’s typically held?
MRU has a first year and second year fieldwork/practicum First Year Field workFirst year observation practicum occurs in the 2nd semester (January- April). This is like job shadowing where students visit an agency or program, gather information and observe interactions.Students must complete 45 hours total - 40 hours (20 each in two different agencies) and 5 hours observing court (2.5 in family court and 2.5 in youth court) Second Year Practicum Student are prepared in April to begin this placement in September of their 2nd year. Students are in this placement from September to April,15 hours a week for a total of 210 hours in a semester (420 in total for the year).
