Practicum Locations:
Students must do an out of town practicum and therefore students are not only placed in Lethbridge and area, but also Crowsnest Pass, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and into B.C. (Elk Valley, Vancouver, Victoria) Our practicum is done in a ‘block’ style with the student working (unpaid) full time in the program they are placed into for the duration of the practicum.
When are Practicum’s typically held?
First year practicum winter semester during March and April
Second practicum runs in the students’ second year during November and December
Third practicum runs in the student’ second year in the winter semester from February to April
What is the duration of the practicum?
First year practicum runs 5 weeks in the winter semester
Second practicum runs in the students’ second year in the fall for 7 weeks
Third practicum runs in the student’ second year in the winter semester for 9

As practicum coordinator starts arranging fall practicum in the last two weeks of August and first two weeks in September and winter practicum’s in November and work on placements throughout November and December.

When are Practicum’s typically held?
MRU has a first year and second year fieldwork/practicum First Year Field workFirst year observation practicum occurs in the 2nd semester (January- April). This is like job shadowing where students visit an agency or program, gather information and observe interactions.Students must complete 45 hours total - 40 hours (20 each in two different agencies) and 5 hours observing court (2.5 in family court and 2.5 in youth court) Second Year Practicum Student are prepared in April to begin this placement in September of their 2nd year.  Students are in this placement from September to April,15 hours a week for a total of 210 hours in a semester (420 in total for the year).

First year practicums should contact us by November for January placements. Second year placements should contact us prior to April.
